Samsung N150 Netbook - An evaluation. Empty
PostSubject: Samsung N150 Netbook - An evaluation.   Samsung N150 Netbook - An evaluation. EmptyWed Oct 19, 2011 1:44 pm

Asus may have kick-started the netbook revolution having its Eee PC, but Samsung has emerged as one of the dominant players in this market thanks to a broad range of devices that provide style, comfort and superb build quality. The N150 netbook, after that, has a lot to live up to.

The keyboard marks a departure in the usual Samsung offering - as opposed to shiny, flat keys, the N150抯 buttons have rounded edges along with a matte finish - nevertheless the quality is still huge. The keys feel receptive and welcoming and, despite the fact that there抯 not quite equally as much travel as we抎 like, we抎 be comfortable while using N150 for long typing directly into sessions.

We were able to get up to speed quickly, too, in part because of the sensible layout: the double-height go back key and normal-sized area bar, shift and control buttons will also be in their usual destinations, and the standard keys are usually of a good specifications. Our only qualm may be the delete key, which is definitely smaller than we抎 enjoy.

Not much, really. The actual N150's innards are helpful and original, but the chassis isn't particularly ground-breaking. The glossy black lid and it is off-centre Samsung logo are actually pleasant enough -- provided you never mind having to tidy fingerprint smudges off regularly -- as well as the anodised red stripe for the sides adds charm.

Samsung N150 overall performance

Additionally, the pre-installed software can decelerate the system抯 performance, which could become frustrating. As it only features a 1. 66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU and 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, multitasking isn抰 among the netbook抯 strong points; it performs at the best when performing just one task. In our effectiveness tests, the N150抯 final results were solid.

The N150 will be exclusive to PC Universe. It's well priced, but when compared with earlier Samsung netbooks and also our current Best Decide to buy, the Toshiba NB305, the actual battery life is weak. The screen is furthermore disappointing, and despite a great keyboard, the touchpad will be too small. The Toshiba NB305 includes over 10 hours' battery life along with a much clearer screen, which makes it a better buy.

Connections include three well-spaced USB sockets (one about the left, two on this right), Ethernet, VGA socket for use having a bigger monitor, and earphones and mic jacks. There is also a 3-in-1 memory card audience.

The graphics performance from the N150 is dependant upon the integrated graphics controller inside the Intel Atom N450 CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT and it抯 not speedy. You won抰 be qualified to play anything but the only of games on a Samsung N150 (games which don抰 use complex design for example), and even Flash-based game titles may run sluggishly about it.

Either way, the 1024x600 resolution from the screen isn抰 high enough to show most games anyway. There is a Samsung software program called Easy Resolution you can use to bump up this resolution to 1024x768 (you can do exactly the same thing from the Intel Show Driver properties), but them makes the screen appearance squished. Standard definition Xvid-encoded training videos will play smoothly, but anything greater than standard definition will put a lot of stress on the product.

Below that is a rather large (considering how big is the netbook) trackpad along with a button bar directly listed below it. The trackpad itself is simple to use, sensitive enough to allow fluid motion throughout the screen and even multi-touch help support for scrolling, zooming and rotating the right path through commands.

While the performance with the Samsung N150 is typical for your netbook, its design aspires to become a little more than run-of-the-mill. Typically, the design is properly executed, but it still looks slightly tacky in places. Particularly, the screen could glimpse better. It has any matte finish, which we love since it means lights won抰 get reflected off it, but simultaneously there is a lustrous strip that frames any screen and becomes distracting if the light reflects off the software. Another quibble relates for the unnecessary label that reads 慏igital Livecam? next for the webcam.

Get past the benefits and drawbacks of the design, that is fairly typical, and you're able to start using the computer for what ?t had been intended.
